Aura Ibett Gutiérrez Zarate
Aura Ibett Gutiérrez Zarate lives in Mexico. Aura is a psychologist, but considers heself, above all, a young woman who fights for women’s human rights. Since 2001, she has been part of ELIGE, the Network of Youth for Sexual and Reproductive Rights, where she has designed and facilitated human rights workshops, conducted research, and participated in national and regional advocacy networks. Aura is currently coordinating a project to combat family violence against youth. She is working to determine causes and effects of family violence and to make effective recommendations to local governments about policies to help end this abuse. Aura has been determined to apply her academic training to defending the rights of young people in her community. As a psychologist and a human rights activist, Aura knows the importance of taking young people’s experience seriously and building a better future based on young people’s dreams and demands.
