Ruth Lokalei Emanikor

Ruth Lokalei Emanikor

Ruth Lokalei Emanikor was born and brought up in the North Western part of Kenya, home to the Turkana Indigenous Peoples. Her parents are teachers who struggled to ensure that Ruth went to school. Ruth eventually became a lawyer and has dedicated herself to fighting for the rights of Indigenous Peoples, especially women and youth.

Ruth works with the Indigenous Information Network, a non-governmental organization and a partner of MADRE, to combat human rights abuses such as early and forced marriages, female genital mutilation, and other harmful cultural practices.

Ruth's deepest hope is to realize the day that Indigenous People in Kenya have equal rights to other citizens and that Indigenous women fight back when their rights are abused.
