Dear Friends,

Welcome to the February issue of MADRE Speaks! We hope our Q & A on the Palestinian elections can be useful in helping you make sense of the recent events in the Middle East.  And we offer MADRE's comments on this week's State of the Union address.

This month we’re also sharing photos of a MADRE-supported youth sculpture project in Peru, which I visited last week.  The workshop—which is made possible by MADRE supporters—gives Indigenous youth in the rural highlands of Peru the opportunity to learn carving techniques using local stone.  We think you will agree that the sculptures they produced are indeed impressive.

As always, we’d love to hear your comments about MADRE Speaks online.  Feel free to drop us a note at madrespeaks@madre.org.

Thank you for being part of MADRE’s international family.

Sincerely,

Vivian Stromberg
Executive Director

P.S. This Friday is the deadline to join MADRE’s Voyages with a Vision delegation to Peru, from March 18-25, 2006.  Visit our website to find out more about the Peru trip and check out photos from our most recent delegation to Guatemala.
