Humanitarian Aid: Meeting Immediate Needs

MADRE's humanitarian aid shipments help the communities of our sister organizations survive the daily crises of poverty, military violence, and natural disaster so they can focus on strengthening their ongoing work for change. Shipments include medicines and medical equipment, emergency food supplies, educational materials, blankets and toys. Since 1983, MADRE has delivered over 22 million dollars worth of support to community-based women's groups in Latin America, the Caribbean, the Middle East, Africa, Asia, the Balkans, and the United States.

MADRE's Emergency and Disaster Relief Fund

One of MADRE's strengths is our ability to meet urgent needs of women and families as we work towards a long-term vision of social justice. To enhance our capacity to respond to crises, MADRE created an Emergancy and Disaster Relief Fund. The Fund will enable us to act immediately and effectively when disaster strikes, bringing urgently needed resources directly to the women and families who need it most.

The MADRE Medical Project

The MADRE Medical Project delivers urgently needed medicines and medical supplies to combat AIDS, breast cancer, pediatric diseases and other threats to people's health in Latin America and the Caribbean. We send medicines and medical supplies to our sister organizations, who distribute them to local hospitals and clinics that serve women and children. Understanding that women's health is inextricably linked to women's human rights, the MADRE Medical Project enables women and their families to address immediate health concerns and strengthen their capacity to develop long-term solutions to the crises their communities face.

Helping Hands: Addressing Immediate Needs of Women & Families in Latin America, the Caribbean, & Africa

Throughout the communities in which MADRE works, women and children often lack resources to meet their basic health needs. MADRE's Helping Hands Campaign provides material necessities for these women so that they can face the immediate crises in their communities and move on to challenge the structures that deny them their basic rights. Grounded in the concrete work of collecting medical equipment, powdered milk, eyeglasses, books, and school supplies, Helping Hands also offers ways for people in the US to think about their own lives in a political context and to join together to demand alternatives to destructive policies.

The success of MADRE's humanitarian aid program depends on the support of our members. There are many ways you can help.
