These exquisite cards are hand-crafted by the women of Taller de Vida, MADRE's sister organization in Colombia, as part of their income-generating programs. You will love the charming images of Colombia's rivers, valleys, and mountains and the fine quality of the recycled paper made from flowers and leaves.

Taller de Vida gives women the opportunity to work in their homes, making cards, bookmarks, diaries and other crafts that provide income for families living in the shadow of a civil war that has displaced millions. They pool some of this income to fund trauma counseling, educational programs, and other services at Taller de Vida.

Here are a few examples of the kind of work that your gift will support:

Combat Violence against Women

• MADRE supports a network of battered women's shelters in Iraq, where violence against women has skyrocketed since the US invasion. Your gift will help women rebuild their lives by providing a safe haven and trauma counseling
• We conduct human rights workshops in Kenya that teach women about laws they can use to protect themselves from marital rape, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM), and other forms of violence.

Respond Effectively to Disasters and Emergencies

• Your support will help us send emergency relief to communities devastated by natural disasters and other emergencies, with a special commitment to ensuring that women—who bear primary responsibility for caring for injured and traumatized families—receive the support they need.

Fight Hunger and Malnutrition among Indigenous Families

• MADRE provides seeds and agricultural training to women in communities on the Coco River in Nicaragua. This program protects sustainable local farming and enables mothers to provide for their families and play leadership roles in their community.
