Bring Helping Hands to Your School

  • Organize an event where admission is a Helping Hands donation.
    • A play, dance, musical performance, talent show, lunchtime movie, sports game…use your imagination!
  • Place collection boxes for donations in your classroom, cafeteria, library or at a PTA meeting.
  • Organize a Helping Hands collection around an upcoming holiday or celebratory event
    • Bring presents for children in Colombia to a holiday party.
    • For Teacher Appreciation Day, collect activity guides that teachers can use in Nicaragua.
  • Organize a read-a-thon in which students' pledges are collected in the form of school supplies or books.
  • Ask librarians and other teachers to donate materials from their classrooms that they no longer need.
  • Organized a scavenger hunt for bargain books sold at local garage sales or used book stores.
  • Provide academic/extracurricular incentives for students to participate in Helping Hands.

Spread the word about Helping Hands

  • Make an announcement to the entire school at an assembly or over the intercom.
  • Encourage your school's newspaper or newsletter to write an article about the Helping Hands campaign.
  • Bring a MADRE speaker to your school!
