Sisters Without Borders

MADRE provides essential support to our partner organizations through our volunteer program, Sisters Without Borders. When requested by our partners, MADRE arranges for culturally competent, skilled professionals to work with women and children and provide assistance to staff and community leaders at our sister organizations in Guatemala, Nicaragua, Peru, and Kenya.

Sisters Without Borders volunteers cover their own travel costs and living expenses and must have credentials and experience in the field in which they would like to work. Fluency in Spanish for all countries in Latin America is required. English-language skills are sufficient for Kenya. Volunteers must be able to make a time commitment of at least 3-6 months.

Under certain circumstances, volunteer opportunities with a time commitment of one month or less may be arranged for advanced professionals, such as physicians and nurses, with necessary language skills and experience working abroad.

MADRE places volunteer professionals with skills in the following areas:

  • Human Rights Law and Advocacy
  • Women’s and Community Health
  • Media and Computer Literacy
  • Education and the Arts
  • Food Security and Sustainable Development
  • Administration and Organizational Development

If you are interested in becoming a Sisters Without Borders volunteer, please send us your resume and cover letter, including your level of fluency in Spanish or other relevant languages, your country and sister organization(s) of interest, approximate dates you would be available, your area(s) of expertise, and your credentials.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Sisters Without Borders candidates will be interviewed by MADRE.
